well well well well well well well. Iv had to propose a new project for the beginning of this year, having done exceedingly well (grades talking, not me) in my first section of the course I now feel the fear of a highly set bar. So what will my project be about, here's hoping that blogging will help.
Having had a fairly drastic lifestyle change, I have been forced to adapt and in doing so have had a few perspective changing considerations, though its hard to word them here, notably reading 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Cohelo, and seeing the films of Miranda July 'You,Me,And Everyone We Know' & 'The Future'. though in slightly varying ways, all three sources propose the power of immediacy, largely through confronting life and its plethora of challenges with an honest perspective; to be both honest with the situation and yourself.
I am interested in the profound ability that omens (complimented by the 'Law of Attraction') have, to reveal wisdom and understanding in the most bizarre and sometimes surreal of ways. Through my art I intend to highlight this mysterious nature within banality, taking the trivial and making it surreal. This is where Miranda July's films truly grasp me, being able to make interesting perceptions through a means of stark honesty which becomes both hilarious and ironic; Using more supernatural storytelling in her later film 'The Future'.
Humor as enjoyable as it is fascinating, is something that I thoroughly appreciate within work of artists such as:
Chris Ofili 'The Adoration of Captain Shit, and the legend of the Black Stars'
Paul McCarthy - Painter
Bruce Nauman - Clown Torture
Harrison & Wood
